nevernight chapter summary

It was such an awesome opening that I don’t know how a better one can start. To be entirely fair to this book, the narrator actually ISN'T the female MC! I really liked this book overall and think it has the makings of a great trilogy. Excited to get the next installment. Here's where my problem is. JCLChrisK's Review was spot on: the writing style in the first 50-70 pages is hard to get through. Daughter of an executed traitor, Mia Corvere is barely able to escape her father's failed rebellion with her life. This book is fan-freaking-tastic!! I really loved the world. While the footnotes will likely appeal to those who are especially interested into the lore of the Nevernight world, they weren't for me. Deadly trials await her within the Church's halls: blades and poisons, treachery and death. The narrator was quirky and witty. There weren’t enough hints leading up to it that it kinda felt somewhat “meh” when the conclusion was determined. Everything is written with great detail. Imagine – you’re reading, getting into the flow of the plot and the story, and then suddenly you see a star, indicating a jump down to the footnotes (normally to explain some religious or historical connotations). The answer: Jay Kristoff, and he pulls it off brilliantly. Furthermore, Mia also seems to be able to use the shadows of others to fight, though her control over this aspect of her powers is largely unexplored and untested. In a land where three suns almost never set, a fledgling killer joins a school of assassins, seeking vengeance against the powers who destroyed her family. Gave up after a few pages. Itreya seems to be built on the Roman Empire, a place at the apex of its power, constantly conquering and expanding. I personally think the narrator is her cat/demon/sidekick, but we're never told specifically who it is. Similar to Marcella's EO super abilities in 'Vengeance', Mia too has a powerful talent. While I understand what Kristoff was going for here (in having Nevernight be a historical documentation of Mia’s  journey, rather than a current telling), I simply found that the footnotes took me out of the story. During this vision, the memories she had forgotten regarding her role in the TrueDark massacre are revealed. MY EYES, O, MY EYES! Those footnotes give the story space to breathe, a moment for us as readers to collect ourselves in those quiet scenes and orient ourselves more fully in the world. The story revolves around a girl by the name of Mia Corvere, who trains at a school for assassins, as she tries to navigate the place while avoiding getting murdered by both staff and student alike. Mia, the girl, also possesses a mysterious companion – a non-cat shadow that allows her to use the power of the Dark. Writer, Reader, & Watcher of all things Fantasy and Geekery. Almost unearned. The story is simply lovely. From this point on the discussion in this review will feature spoilers – if you have not read Nevernight, I recommend ceasing your reading now and coming back once you’ve finished the book! Daughter of an executed traitor, Mia Corvere is barely able to escape her father's failed rebellion with her life. Its religion is based around a father god, Aa, a god of light and the three suns of the world, which keep it from being true night for several years in a row, are said to be his eyes. He and his four daughters are the primary deities of the Itreyan Republic. This is all to say, that the mythology, history, structure, geography and every detail of this world have been fully imagined and planned, and it's beautiful. The flashback is how Mia decides to lose her virginity because she doesn’t know if she will live the attempted murder. But her gift for speaking with the shadows leads her to the hearth of a retired killer, and a future she never imagined. The. Kristoff has revealed that Mia can summon shadows to cloak herself,  and has a familiar, Mister Kindly, who is more shadow than cat. In a world where the suns almost never set, a woman gains entry to a school of infamous assassins, seeking vengeance against the powers that destroyed her family. He was inside her – it was inside her – so hard and real she couldn’t help but cry out, biting her lip to muffle the flood. Imagine this happens 2-3 times per page, and you can see how this may become a bit of an issue for a reader. Now, Mia is apprenticed to the deadliest flock of assassins in the entire Republic-the Red Church. and then there was pain, pain, O, Daughters it hurt. In contrast, a bit of world-building that I truly enjoyed was the parallel story-lines (between past and present) at the very beginning of Nevernight. She does mildly flirt with (or more accurately, IS flirted with BY) another a girl, and it seems like being attracted to multiple genders is just a casual thing in this world, but bisexual is never used and there's not much sense of the MC being attracted to any women. You also don't have to read the footnotes, although they do provide some interesting world-building. O, gentlefriends, you may not approve of my decision to rate Nevernight with a severe and lonely star given the fact that I failed to finish it. Daughter of an executed traitor, Mia Corvere is barely able to escape her father's failed rebellion with her life. We get these delicious scenes of life there, followed by these insane happenings that I could never predict, and it just feels so goddamn real. Nevernight (Book) : Kristoff, Jay : "In a world where the suns almost never set, a woman gains entry to a school of infamous assassins, seeking vengeance against the powers that destroyed her family. One can tell that this series will be an epic journey, and if Nevernight is to be any indication, riddled with twists and turns that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. Mister Kindly, her shadow – cat (he is literally made of shadows), swallows her fear, feeding himself, but also allowing Mia to sleep soundly, without the horrors from her past overcoming the present. and she could see it in his eyes – pain, pain, O, Daughters, it hurt. Revenge. Along the way, Mia makes some friends; notably, Tric, a fellow initiate with an equally dark past. ( Log Out /  She is not the best at everything, not big, not strong. As a teen I would have read this but I can certainly understand why people would feel it inappropriate. Now, a sixteen year old Mia is apprenticed to the deadliest flock of assassins in the entire Republic – the Red Church. I also liked the minimal magic systems within it. Let’s just say that I have never read a better first chapter. The first chapter starts as a flashback, but really only a short time before the actual start of the chapter. Following his death, his familiar, now tied to Mia (in addition to Mister Kindly), divulges that Cassius was never interested in exploring the nature of his powers. The beginning was filled with footnotes as well, which reduced as the plot progresses. They all have a real roundness to them that makes them feel so utterly real. Nevernight (eBook) : Kristoff, Jay : "In a world where the suns almost never set, a woman gains entry to a school of infamous assassins, seeking vengeance against the powers that destroyed her family. I knew going in that he wasn't afraid to play with format, but the footnotes still took me fully by surprise. Mister Kindly also appears to be able to siphon off Mia’s fear and shield her from her nightmares; in fact, it is implied that he feeds off her fear, and without the fear of the Darkin, he could not exist. Once she gets to the school, she trains to become a member of the church. As for the book and plot itself: actually really good. Book itself is very good, but the way a plot of capture the of!
